This is my least favorite book in the series。 There were several things in the book I did not like， characters that did not need to be there， and unnecessary storylines。 However， I still love anything Grisha， just not this one。

I really like the Grishaverse， and this book had the best parts of them all。 The world-building and the magic and none of the stupid romantic epic crap from the first trilogy。 Nikolai and Zoya were some of the best characters from the original trilogy and they got to shine。 And Nina， of the Crows， got to continue her journey。

3。5 almost 4 stars。 i really enjoyed all the characters but just felt like there was a lot going on and the pacing couldn’t keep up with it。 however the last couple chapters of the book really made up for it！ i can’t wait to see where zoya’s new power takes her， what happens with the war， and of course i have many questions about how nikolai is going to deal with the darkling。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it， click here。 I am consistently amazed by Leigh Bardugo。 That she can create this world and these characters and continue to put them in situations that feel real and urgent and then somehow find a way to get them back out again？ It’s amazing。 Granted， nobody really found their way out of anything in this book。 That’s not entirely true， I guess， there were the factory girls and babies that Nina saved and there was the weird twilight/sand/saint dimension that Zoya and Nikolai escaped， but as far as the overall I am consistently amazed by Leigh Bardugo。 That she can create this world and these characters and continue to put them in situations that feel real and urgent and then somehow find a way to get them back out again？ It’s amazing。 Granted， nobody really found their way out of anything in this book。 That’s not entirely true， I guess， there were the factory girls and babies that Nina saved and there was the weird twilight/sand/saint dimension that Zoya and Nikolai escaped， but as far as the overall sticky situation that they’re in？ With that ENDING？ I truly don’t know what’s going to happen。 Leigh is masterful with twists and turns and heart-wrenching stories and introducing new characters that feel like old friends。 Her other books have been that way and this is no exception。 I can’t wait to see what they go through next。 I don’t expect a completely happy ending， and I’m OK with that。 Leigh has shown that she is not afraid to hurt us or show us the realities of the type of world that these characters are living in， and I appreciate that。 It’s not as though it’s done for shock value， it’s done because that’s what the story needs。 It’s what the characters need to grow and become who they are supposed to be。 I enjoy that a lot about these books， as so many YA fantasy novels shoehorn in a picture perfect happy ending。 Now， the end of S&B might have been that way a little bit。。。but not this book。 It’s my favorite Grishaverse story yet and I cannot wait for Rule of Wolves。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it， click here。 I've got some mixed feelings on this one。 Overall I enjoyed it， but I didn't always love it。My love for Nikolai knows no bounds， and that only got more intense with this book。 Learning his backstory and why he's so charming and how he fits his personality to gain the approval of whoever he's with made me want to wrap him in blankets and promise that he's lovable exactly how he is。 I'd never been a huge Zoya fan， though I had nothing against her， but learning her backstory and getting to see laye I've got some mixed feelings on this one。 Overall I enjoyed it， but I didn't always love it。My love for Nikolai knows no bounds， and that only got more intense with this book。 Learning his backstory and why he's so charming and how he fits his personality to gain the approval of whoever he's with made me want to wrap him in blankets and promise that he's lovable exactly how he is。 I'd never been a huge Zoya fan， though I had nothing against her， but learning her backstory and getting to see layers of her that she doesn't let anyone else see definitely made me like her more。 And obviously I love Nina from the crows。 I really liked Nina's plotline and I know it'll eventually connect back to Nikolais， but I wish it had either connected more directly in this book or had been it's own book because jumping between Nina's story and Nikolai and Zoyas was kind of jarring and pulled me out of the book。 I would get really invested in one plotline just in time to switch gears to another one， and that made me lose interest at times and kept this from being a fun， quick read。 MAJOR SPOILERS BELOWI haven't read any other reviews for this book， so idk if this is an unpopular opinion or not， but 。。。 I kinda just wish the darkling stayed dead。 We spent three books leveling up and learning how to defeat him and I wanted his story to end there。 I don't want to have to go through the process of defeating him again。 I've had enough of him。 If Nina's story wasn't in this book， I might not have gone for the next one because I don't really feel like dealing with the darkling plotline， but I am extremely invested in Nina and Hanne and the Brum plotline so I'll read the next one for that。 But I'm frustrated that the darkling is back and we have to deal with that all over again。 。。。more

I love Nikolai， love his witty banter， the continuous inner monologues and the comical approach he has to everything。 Zoya is amazing and will forever be one of my favourite characters in the Grishaverse。 She is a great， powerful character that eerily reminds me of Mikasa Ackerman from Attack on Titan。 I have to say that the action in the beginning was pretty slow but it did pick up quite quickly。 Also， the ending。。 did not expect that to happen。。I am very intrigued， to say the least。
